This varied walk has interest all the way through. This part of the Brecon Canal contains five locks as it rises quite a lot to reach the flanks of Tor y Foel. The Usk Valley Walk provides good views down the valley and the road around Tor y Foel overlooks Talybont Reservoir and the mountains. The return down Cwm Crawnon is quite magical.

We used this walk in late July 2015. Great walk, until we reached instruction 5/6. There is a gate (approx 30 metres)after walking right on the minor road, but there was a tremendous amount of bracken/brambles, which made it practically impassable, especially when considering current Instruction 6. We therefore turned left on the minor road and proceeded to Pen y bailey (134193), turned right and followed a well signposted path on a steady decline through several fields until we reached the canal near to 'The Coach & Horses'

Good walk but suggest that in Waymark 4 paragraph 'Come to and pass a large stone barn. Go through the gate and ... ' add this to Waymark 5 before ' ... walk straight ahead etc.' Omit the footpath was legally moved in Nov 2004 etc as there is still no sign.

Great walk with almost everything, canal walk, hill walking, fantastic views, superb scenery and a lovely river walk to finish. Highly recommended. A little difficult if it is wet as there are some short, very steep parts but this should not put you off. A must-do walk.
