Llyn Brenig and the Clywedog Reservoir

There are great contrasts on this short walk, the huge area of Llyn Brenig being left for the tiny Clywedog Reservoir whose waters are now open to the skies after many years of concealment among forestry plantations. The height gains are modest and the route finding fairly easy, the return being by pastures.

Thanks to Jim who obviously worked hard to put this walk together! Route finding was fine. There's not much of a fence left after WM6 (where the stile is incomplete) but there are just about enough of the old fence posts to guide you through to 7.You'll meet a little more barbed wire than you'd like (even on some of the stiles!) but it's easy enough to negotiate. Don't be put off by these minor challenges - the views are great and you are out in the wilderness, probably with it all to yourself. One final note - the toilets at the start are boarded up.

We tried this walk in Feb 2011 - could not find trail between points 2 & 3. The sign post in picture 2 does not now exist. Did find a way to point 4 but the Archaelogical trail that is supposedly signed is not. Having struggled to find point 4 we gave up as it was also very very cold and we didn't fancy getting lost. On way back down still could not find correct route. On our return to the gravel path along the lake it appears that a new stile had just been put in much closer to the car park so maybe they are redoing the Archaelogical trail.
