This is a splendid walk in the wilds, round Loch Affric through a remnant of the ancient Caledonian Forest, with stunning mountain views.

It's a fairly strenuous walk, but on good paths - a forest track on the way out and a delightful stalkers' path on the way back. It can of course, be done either way; the best views are from the south side of the loch, so photographers will no doubt choose according to the sun. There are only two points where a choice of path has to be made - at Waymarks 11 and 13 - the rest of the trouble-free time is spent enjoying the views.

It's a very popular walk in the summer months, particularly with European visitors; three out of four of the people you meet will be Europeans. Boots are necessary and wet-weather clothing is advised.

We walked this in the autumn of 2015 and thoroughly enjoyed it. The views are stupendous. In our opinion the clockwise route described here is best as the return path is in many ways more appealing and rounds off the walk superbly. Just be aware that after rainfall it may be impossible to cross the burn near the start of the return and it may be necessary to go back the way you have come.

A great wee walk with beautiful views. Trees For Life do a walk there every year in aid of their tree planting charity.
