The walk is based on the popular Visitor Centre at Loggerheads with all its facilities. It takes you around Colomendy Outdoor Centre and up into the nature reserve, where there are wide-ranging views before descending to Maeshafn opposite the Miners' Arms. The route then descends to enter Big Covert, from which it emerges through pastures and alongside a pretty stream in woodland. The final approach to Loggerheads is down a bridleway.
