This tranquil, rural walk starts at the old San Francisco railway station above Loja. The walk provides pleasant rural views from the first step and is on tranquil tracks all the way round. You ascend fairly steeply up a zigzagging, very minor road out onto cart-tracks for the rest of the walk. You pass between El Hacho (The Axe Head) and Cerro de la Corona as you ascend to the hamlet of Los Arenales, passing several small fincas.

As you come past Las Arenales, vistas of the Sierras Subbeticas and across several farmed valleys come into view, giving a good feel for local agriculture. You descend with views across Loja to the Cruz de Periquete (see Walk 4252).
