The area north of the Blencathra and Skiddaw massifs is often known as the Back O' Skidda. The hills here, classified by Wainwright as the Northern Fells are mostly rolling green hills, the countryside itself feels slightly more akin to Scotland than to the dales and valleys of Lakeland. This is a fantastic walk on the northern ramparts of the National Park, northwards from here lies the flat fertile country of Solway and the Borders until the hills of Galloway and the Borders rise up on the horizon. This walk will take you to three Wainwright summits (5 if you take the optional out and back detours), and give fantastic views over Skiddaw and the Solway Firth to the Scottish hills beyond. There are no crags or similar dangers, just miles of great walking and great views.

Please remember that the High Fells can see changeable weather and appropriate clothing should be worn or carried.

17th December 2013 - only a week until Christmas Day yet an almost cloudless sky! This is a splendid walk with good views throughout its entirety, any steep climbs are fairly short although take heed of the note in the directions that the descent from Great Sca Fell is steep because it is.
