A circular, mostly flat walk which follows the Severn Way upriver from Longney Crib, which is the uppermost part of the river affected by tides, with the exception of spring tides. The river is very wide at first, with sandbanks exposed at low tide. Further upstream, the river completely changes character and becomes much narrower and deeper.

After leaving the river behind, the walk returns mostly along the country roads through the small villages of Waterend, Downend and Longney, which all merge. The area is surrounded by orchards, which can be seen along the riverbanks and in the village itself.
