An interesting walk, using some of the less well-used paths in this area, though all are easily found and are not difficult to walk. Most of the route is along field- and moorland paths or tracks, though some short sections of road-walking are required.
There are a few steep descents and one quite steep climb on this walk, though the paths mostly have suitable stepping places to not be too slippery. There is one section where extra care is required, as the path crosses the railway tracks on the route between Leadmill and Hathersage Booths. Approaching trains should give a warning when near this area.
The pub used on this route is the Plough Inn at Leadmill on the banks of the River Derwent just outside Hathersage. This is a popular pub and can be very busy. They offer a good-value menu with a wide choice, using a system of numbered wooden spoons to identify your order. They have a good choice of real ales on offer. Outside there is a beer-garden with tables and a few other tables in front of the pub on the roadside area.
