The Black Mountains are situated on the border between Wales and England. The area is often likened to the fingers of a hand, as there are ridges running north to south, with lovely valleys between. These five walks explore some of the eastern flanks of the Black Mountains. Some walks start in England and some in Wales. Walk 4531 visits a hill-fort. 4536 is very varied as it meanders down valleys and up hills; the views are spectacular and are a photographer's delight. There is also a visit to a motte and bailey and an ancient church and cross. The views change with the seasons and give delight in all conditions. Walk 4538 is a good climb, while 4539 uses a number of long-distance paths.
On this walk, 4537, we initially climb a little to enjoy the views across the Monnow Valley. The return route visits Clodoch Church with its lovely coffee stop on the riverside. Here you will enjoy rapids and still water, wagtails and maybe kingfishers.
