A scenic walk which, after an initial climb, takes you along quiet country lanes, through beech woodland and across open fields. The route also passes through the grounds of the beautiful NT property Greys Court.

Lovely relaxing and varied walk. Sometimes through woods, other times over fields. There are some quite pleasant views of the edge of the Chilterns especially in the second half of the walk. There is now a golf course between WM 17 & 18 and I've made some update suggestions to the admins to reflect this. The lamb pub is now closed and boarded up. (Another one bites the dust). When I did this walk (Sept 2020) there was some building work going on around the cemetery at the start of the walk, so I had to made a slight detour to get back on the right path.

A lovely walk, thank you to the author, but a couple of comments. The 2nd of the pubs mentioned in the introduction is better described as being at Waypoint 21. It is next to the church in Rotherfield Greys. (It does full meals.) From Waypoint 25 we found ourselves walking along a narrow valley - as is shown by the coutours on the map - with woods close on either side, rather than climbing through woods. The climb through woods occurred when we took the path left out of the valley.

In the instructions for point 11, there is "Cross stile and then follow path across field towards right-hand corner of wood ahead.". There is now a sign up that the footpath has been re-established onto its correct alignment. It now goes into the wood rather than following the wood edge.

Tricia Daw 1-9-10 Me and my husband completed this beautiful walk today and thought it absolutely delightful. Being National Trust members and not having visited Grey's Court for a number of years we popped in and 'did' the gardens after a morning coffee. We had an excellent lunch at The Lamb and could have had a cup of tea at The Maltsters but chose not to! The views are great; much of the walking is through beech woods - is there any better with the sunshine coming through the canopy? We saw a herd of deer; red kites; ate blackeberries; admired lovely properties. The tyre mentioned as not being visible in 2008 is very much in evidence, perhaps people didn't walk as far as they needed to. The other thing we noticed is that The Strip house was on our right not left. Also the arrows on the trees are now virtually all white and all numbers have gone. This was only really a problem at point 24/5 when my husband wanted to turn left at a tree like the one shown but now in white arrows but I thought it too soon. He was right. Perhaps the directions should read'the path descends and then at the tree marked with white arrows at the bottom of the dip you turn left and walk for quite a way climing thru' the woods being very careful etc'. Anyway thank you.

This walk was updated May 2008, with thanks to Andrew Long. Please note that a compass or a GPS may be particularly useful on this walk especially through the woods where route numbers and arrows painted on trees have faded. At wm 12 the 'first option' is easy and recommended as it may prevent walking over delicate bluebells. At wm 14 the tyre was not visible, although the crossing track is obvious.
