Starting just outside the pretty little town of Lozoya next to the lovely Pinilla Lake, our way takes us along a lakeside track before we climb up to cross the road to reach the lower level of El Chaparral. There now follows a steady but not overly difficult climb up to the ridge at Collada de los Fuentes at about 1,400m above sea level. Most of the way there are helpful cairns marking our route. The views over the Embalse de Pinilla are just awesome.

The next stage is through woods and mountain pasture (cattle and horses roam freely) and before long we are descending the northern flank, making our way gradually downwards eventually to join the Camino de Navarredonda. Here you could go right and follow the Camino to the charming little Pueblo of Navarredonda if you wish, adding about 3km to the walk but this is not described here.

The last part of this hike is simply following the Camino ever downwards for about 5.5km back to Lozoya, where refreshments await.
