Lydiard Park is the ancestral home of the Viscounts Bolingbroke, which includes the striking Palladian house, beautiful church, formal parkland and surrounding pasture and a Georgian walled garden, with stunning displays of flowers, fruit trees and topiary. The park is set in 260 acres with wide, accessible paths criss-crossing the site around the lakes, lawns, woodlands and pasture. There is also a huge children's play area suitable for children of all ages. In 2011, Lydiard Park was named as one of the nation's best green spaces and was awarded a Green Flag, along with Green Heritage status.

Much of the walk is within the grounds of the park, but it also ventures further afield to the nearby village of Lydiard Millicent.

My husband and I (both age 75) have just done this walk (31/07/22). The instructions were all clear and easy to follow. It is delightful as far as point 12, and then it turns into the most walker-unfriendly walk we have ever done! Stiles, if they exist at all are mostly broken and/or covered in growth, and a real problem. Often the only alternative is to climb over padlocked farm gates. Field paths are overgrown and not really walkable - we had to follow a tractor tyre track in one field. A path across a field had been obliterated by a crop of wheat. And at point 19 the path was completely blocked by growth and totally impassable unless you had a hedge trimmer with you. And a lot of the 'yellow arrow' markers were damaged or missing. Clearly the paths are not used enough to keep them open, and one guesses the farmers[s] do not want them used, and the difficulty of using the paths is such that one quite understands that local people, who by walking paths help to keep them usable, have not walked these paths.

Firstly the Sat Nav location takes you to a different car park, one near point 4 on the walk, by the church and the house. Secondly the car parking is no longer free both at the car park above and at the car park mentioned at point one. You can complete the walk starting at point 4. A pleasant flat easy stroll.
