This pleasing but initially strenuous walk takes you from the car park near Trentabank Reservoir climbing steadily through Macclesfield Forest and then out onto open moorland. As you cross the moorland you will soon get your first sighting of Shutlingsloe (Cheshire's Matterhorn).

Once on the summit and weather permitting, you will enjoy views of Macclesfield Forest and Shining Tor in a northerly direction, The Roaches and Tittesworth Reservoir to the south and panoramic views across the Cheshire Plain towards Beeston Castle and beyond to the Clwydian Hills, some fifty miles to your west.

After a sharp descent off the summit you will walk around the western side of Shutlingsloe, strolling across rough grazing land, trekking through tranquil cloughs and then returning into Macclesfield Forest along quiet lanes.

Absolutely superb walk on the perfect spring day! My watch said it was 7 miles, but we did it in exactly 5 hours including a picnic under a hawthorn tree by the stream half-way between points 16 and 17, and another snack break later on. The 360 degree views from the top of Shuttlingsloe were magnificent, and the whole walk was delightful - great swathes of gorse in full bloom, carpets of wild daffodils, baby lambs, and really easy pathfinding all the way.

This is the third time I have walked Shutlingsloe over the past 2 months. I love the area and the views are fantastic. The last time was on 24th January, loads of snow but great non-the-less. For a nice half day walk this is highly recommended
