This is an easy halfday walk on level ground and mostly on well-surfaced tracks. Signposting is good and there are no stiles. There is a variety of terrain: suburban streets, canal towpath, riverbank, young woodland and an urban park round the town hall with children's playground and bowling greens. One section is noisy with traffic, but this is soon left behind and the overwhelming impression is of the quietness so close to a busy area. The young plantations of this section of the Mersey Forest have quickly found favour with birds and animals, a situation which can only get better.
