Beginning in the beautiful park near Malpas, just to the south-west of Truro, we begin by following the course of the Truro River, passing the aptly named Sunny Corner. We will wander along the lane through the lovely village of Malpas with its well-known pub, The Heron Inn.

Our next stage is across country, with one short steep climb, to reach the sleepy hamlet of St Clements and its beautiful old church. From here we continue, now along the banks of the Tresillian River, until we near Pencalenick College, where we head off on permissive footpaths through a rhododendron forest, part of the Duchy of Cornwall.

Reaching a narrow country lane, we follow it for about a kilometre before we head off along another narrow lane to bring us to the country road leading to St Clements. After a short stretch, we leave the lane to walk south through timeless Cornish countryside to descend back to Sunny Corner. Now it is a simple matter of retracing our footsteps to the little cafe at the start for some well-earned refreshment.

Check walked 10 June 2020. I have replaced the picture at way mark 5 and sharpened the text to guide you through the rhododendron forest. I have also suggested an alternative end from way mark 11 and the detail of this can be read in additional information. The walk remains really enjoyable, varied and interesting. Jim Arymar

A nice walk, much of it on roads so good for rainy muddy days. Waymark 5 difficult to find,as you don't know when you are 450m from the end of footpath! We took what we thought was right path but spent 20 minutes wandering through jungle, eventually coming out nowhere near the right place. There are no waymarks on the woos, so just head uphill and have a good map/gps with you.
