Matlock - Bonsall - Uppertown - Horse Dale - Winster - Snitterton - Matlock
This is a quite demanding walk with some long, steady climbs and descents, steep in places. Much of the route follows the Limestone Way with parts on outward and return routes. Most of the route is along field-paths and tracks, though some sections of road-walking are required. The last section of the return follows a partly metalled path beside the River Derwent, passing some industrial areas.
There is much of interest around the route with good views in most areas, as much is on high ground looking over the surrounding dales. There are former industrial areas too, passing through the former Beans & Bacon Mine near Winster and Jughole Wood on the return.
The pub used on this walk The Miners Standard in Winster. This is a walker-friendly pub, though they appreciate you covering or removing muddy boots. They offer a good-value menu with wide choice. They also offer a choice of real ales, though nothing special. Outside there are a few bench tables, though the garden area behind the pub is no longer accessible.
