A quite short and yet demanding walk, just crossing the hill between Matlock and Bonsall and returning along sections of the Limestone Way.

Most of the route is along field-paths and tracks. There are a few quite steep sections which are not too difficult. A short section of road-walking is required in approaching the pub in Bonsall Dale.

The pub used on this walk is not one of the best known or largest pubs in Derbyshire, now opening at lunchtimes over the weekend only and not at all on Monday or Tuesday (except bank holidays). The Barley Mow offers a good value menu the set 'roast' meals being particularly good value and a choice of interesting beers at realistic prices. Larger groups may swamp this pub, they have only about six tables inside and a few benches on the raised patio beside the road outside, this area is sometimes covered.

This was our second walk on a visit to the Peak District in July 2017. Some uphill sections were quite steep and we struggled so we would have put this more in the moderate/strenuous category, however, we pushed through knowing it was only 5 miles. There are a number of pinch stiles which do slow you down a bit so it may take longer than the 2 hours 30 suggested.
