Our walk begins at a car park next to the Rver Derwent, which we cross to climb past the war memorial up to High Tor, giving fantastic views looking down on the river and town and also over to Riber Castle. From here dare you take on Giddy Edge, or the less scary path, before descending to the town and back across the river via a section on The Lovers' Walk.

We now head up the Heights of Abraham, which as its name suggests is a steep walk, but very rewarding with fantastic views of Giddy Edge and High Tor and an excellent woodland track. From here we head gently downhill along the Limestone Way, giving a different perspective of the surrounding area, before reaching town near the railway station.

Back across the river, grab a coffee or ice cream in the park (you've earned it) before following the river as it winds around back to the walk start.

This is a moderate walk, with the odd strenuous climbing section.

Walked today starting at WM8 in Matlock Bath largely because I was staying nearby but also to put Giddy Edge as the finale. A most enjoyable route with very clear directions and frequent waymarks. Pity Giddy Edge isn't longer, there are few similar paths in Britain, but great fun, safe and easy with a solid handrail. Section after WM11 was quite muddy and slippery after several wet days, but overall an excellent walk.
