A very pleasant little walk around the Derwent Valley on the northern border of County Durham. Starting from the village of Medomsley, the route descends along lanes and through open fields to intersect the Derwent Valley Railway Walk, passing Hamsterley Hall on the way. An absolutely delightful, tree-lined railway walk follows for the next 2.7 miles that skirts Hamsterley Mill and Hamsterley and reveals good panoramic views north across the valley from strategic viewing places. The final section of the walk from the railway path climbs up through grassy fields and woods, eventually to level out and arrive back into Medomsley.
