An easy to follow, undulating walk around the Derwent Valley on the Durham - Northumberland border. The route passes through the old Roman garrison village of Ebchester and then visits the 18th Century Derwentcote Museum, a former steel-making furnace.
The walk starts from the elevated village of Medomsley, then descends through fields roads and a railway walk to arrive at Ebchester in the valley of the River Derwent. The route then crosses the river into Northumberland for generally flat field- and lane-walking to arrive at the riverside village of Blackhall Mill. The route next crosses the river back into County Durham, where field- and lane- walking delivers the walker to the old Derwentcote Steel Furnace Museum. From here the walk starts the long pull up through fields and woods to return to Medomsley.
