This is quite a varied walk, taking in open moor, woodland, passing industrial archaeology and using footpaths through grassy fields. There is a lot to see and it will take at least three hours, but if you time it right you can look forward to a drink at The Dartmoor Inn at Merrivale on your return. This is a popular pub for day-trippers and walkers. The first mile or so is reasonably flat; you will then gently climb up to the old railway track that circles around King Tor. There are no railway lines anymore, they went long ago. When you reach the railway line and start to walk along it, look out on your left for the abandoned corbels about fifty yards up, a leftover from days of granite quarrying. In front of The Dartmoor Inn there is a disused highway and you will walk up another just past Ward Bridge which is quite a bit steeper.
