Middle Assendon - Fawley - Gussetts Wood - Coxlease Farm - Middle Assendon

After a steep initial climb there are magnificent views almost immediately over a typical Chiltern landscape. This pleasant walk is primarily on quiet country roads and lanes and whilst it is a thoroughly enjoyable walk at any time of the year, it is perhaps at its best in the winter months when the hedgerows are bare and the field-paths somewhat muddy.

If you want to stop for a breather, visit the church of St Mary the Virgin in Fawley. There is a bench in the churchyard and another one later at Fawley Green.

I'm going to be a bit mean and only rate this walk as average. Yes there were a few nice views, but not all that many. For me, too much of the walk involved travelling along country lanes with nothing much to see other than the path ahead. Perhaps years ago it might have been different. Most of the lanes have high bushes all the way along them on both sides, so while there might have been good views once, they are now hidden. It's not a bad walk, just not a great one, at least for me.

We really enjoyed this walk and the views were great. There are dozens of skylarks and red kites flying above you as you walk. No sign of a pub called The Walnut Tree on the route - only a very derelict old pub. Nice looking pub at the start/end though.

I did this walk in the foggy conditions and so wasn't able to appreciate the views. Great directions - few minor comments added to walk directions.
