Middle Fell is a mountain rarely climbed, as most visitors to Wasdale are heading for either Great Gable, Pillar or the Sca Fells, but the views from this lower summit are no less spectacular; in fact it offers some of the best views of the Sca Fell range.

The route starts at the bottom of Greendale in a small area suitable for parking. The route begins the ascent straight away with a steep climb to Greendale Gill and a split in the path. The route continues up the southern ridge of the fell and after a further 300m of ascent you will reach the large summit cairn which overlooks Greendale and the neighbouring valley of Nether Beck.

The route continues north over the fell top and down to the col between it and Seatallan. At this depression the route goes briefly pathless until you reach Greendale Tarn which sits just below. Upon reaching the tarn a faint path is joined, which continues along Greendale Gill on the eastern bank and arrives back at Waymark 2 with a short, simple descent to the start.
