Middleton and the two Hennys (Hennies?) are tucked away in superb, rolling countryside just inside Essex and to the west of the border with Suffolk. The entire area is only served by country roads and there is little parking except by the church at Middleton, where only a few cars can park. There is a space reserved for turning, so please respect this and park very considerately. One section of this route, just before Dove House Farm, follows a recently altered section of path, which is not yet traced on the OS map. However, if you follow the instructions below carefully this should present no problem. You will almost certainly be surprised, since this is East Anglia, that you will rarely be walking on the level throughout the walk. In fact, whenever you are not ascending the chances are you will be descending, however gradually. This contributes to providing good views at many points.

Really loved this walk. Lots of gradients to climb, but well worth it. The walk is actually only 4.5 miles. Parking at the church at the start is no longer allowed,so I parked at waymark 9 at the start of the gravel track, near Ryes Gardens There is room for about 6 cars here, postcode CO10 7EA. Just a couple of updates,at waymark 4,the stile in the hedge has been replaced with a kissing gate. Also the one by the farm. At waymark 5,the path leading to the church,is now enclosed with fences either side.At waymark 7,the path ahead through the trees is completely overgrown. So when the path divides, now take the right fork instead. Follow the left edge of a field as it bares left to a gate,go through and turn right to the start of waymark 8. Recommended walk. Perfect instructions too.
