This circular walk explores the pleasant and interesting countryside around the twin villages of Middleton One Row and Middleton St George. The varied terrain includes riverside paths, leafy lanes, a golf course and fields as well as a delightful and hugely popular historic railway path.
The walk starts at the picturesque village of Middleton One Row perched high above the majestic River Tees. The route initially descends to river level, from where a charming riverside path takes you to the old Dinsdale Spa before climbing up from the river to pass through the sedate hamlet of Dinsdale Park. The walk then heads north, initially passing through the middle of Dinsdale Golf Course before a series of field-paths takes you across the Darlington to Eaglescliffe railway line for the first time. Field-, lane- as well as a little pavement-walking then takes you through a large, fairly recently formed Woodland Trust area (South Burdon Community Forest), to intersect a railway path with an important railway history. The railway path passes through the northernmost part of Middleton St George before re-crossing the railway line crossed earlier to head south through fields and return to Middleton One Row.
