This walk starts in the small rural hamlet of Mill Green on the outskirts of Chelmsford. Making use of Woodland paths, farm tracks and field margins. the route meanders to Blackmore, six miles away. After taking time to visit the church, the pub or the cafe the return route of about two miles is largely on St Peter's Way, a long-distance path running across Essex. Some of the ancient woodland, the remains of Writtle Forest, harbours a large herd of deer as well as woodpeckers, butterflies in the summer and a wealth of fungi in the autumn.
