The Wolds offer walkers excellent walking opportunities with great scenery and amazing views. Millington is a picturesque small village on the periphery of The Wolds. It is the point where the flatlands of the Vale of York turn to hills, thereby rewarding the walker with breathtaking views across the Vale, on a clear day of approximately thirty miles. There are a number of dales and valleys in the Millington area which the walker passes on this route.

From the ascent from Millington Village, the Vale of York comes into view. This is an extraordinary view and on a clear day, one can see approximately thirty miles - bring your binoculars!

The route then enters Givendale, a very scenic dale, at the head of which is an old church which is in an amazing location. One cannot resist stopping and enjoying the views.

The walk next enters a woodland and when you leave the Vale of York it opens in front of you. As you descend the view becomes wider and a number of landmarks can be identified.

The route skirts the Grimthorpe Manor Estate before entering Grimthorpe Wood, where the walker experiences the abundance of wildlife and dense woodland.

Following this, the route takes the walker over a crystal-clear stream before entering farmland which leads to Millington, where a stroll around the picturesque village finishes off a great walk.

Nice mix of open farm land, views of the Wolds and across the Vale of York, and secluded woodland paths. Walked on June 19th with fantastic display of wild flowers, e.g. orchids, geraniums, etc, at some field edges.
