Walk from Milngavie via the West Highland Way to sample the delights of Mugdock Country Park. The suggested part-linear route offers riverside, moorland amd woodland terrains, with halfway refreshments and a couple of castles thrown in.
The route takes the West Highland Way out of Milngavie and soon follows the Allander Water to enter the Country Park. It then strikes out through parkland and deciduous woodland to reach Mugdock Castle. Next, a broad track leads past the ruined Craigend Castle to the halfway point at the visitor centre. Here are located toilets, cafe, giftshop and other facilities. Return is made via Mugdock Loch and across moorland to rejoin the West Highland Way and so back with choice of route into Milngavie.
