Monsal Head - Brushfield - Tideswell - Litton - Cressbrook - Monsal Head

This walk starts from one of Derbyshire's most popular viewpoints and uses some of the less well-used paths in the area.

Most of the route is along field-paths and tracks, though some road-walking is required, mostly through Tideswell and along narrow roads leaving the town. All paths were clear and stiles in place when walked. The first part of the walk is the longer, with a shorter and more direct return route.
There are a few steep climbs and descents along the route. The longest climbs and descents have steps to aid passing these sections.

The pub used on this walk is The George Hotel in Tideswell. It is adjacent to the church and can be quite busy. They welcome walkers, though covering of muddy boots is appreciated. They offer a good-value menu with interesting choices and a few decent beers on hand-pumps, mostly from the Kimberley Brewery with their Old Trip and Druid's Droop on offer when walked. Outside there are a few tables in the car park area and beer-garden to the rear, accessed through the pub. Eating your own food is not appreciated.

Did this walk 21.9.19 & really enjoyed it. Instructions very easy to follow. Lovely scenery throughout. We diverted to the Red lion at Litton for a lovely pint, sandwich & conversation - a cracking village pub!, Yogi was able to be off the lead for large parts of the walk & particularly in the first half of the walk plenty of places for him to be able to get a drink.A walk I would highly recommend.

Completed this walk 06/09/2018 Some of the detail regarding stiles, gates etc have changed but are still in the same places. Generally the trail is easy to follow as so many other walkers have done so. We liked the variety and the perfectly placed lunch stop. The quoted distance between points is usually understated so just trust you instincts and keep on walking.

We did this walk on the 23/07/08 although another thoroughly enjoyable walk, the distance is wrong. It is not 9.0 miles as indicated but 10.8 miles as recorded with my GPS so be prepared and take an extra mars bar. Also the food is excellent at the monsal head hotel and dog friendly.
