Monsal Head - Cressbrook Dale - Wardlow Mires - Foolow - Great Longstone - Monsal Head
This walk takes in some of the most popular walking areas of the White Peak, yet still finding areas rarely walked by many guidebook walkers, particularly on the return route. Most guidebooks take a more direct route between Foolow and Great Longstone.
Much of the walk is along tracks and lanes, with some road-walking. There is also a short section passing through a stone-processing plant; during weekdays there can be large vehicles around this area, but it is only for about 300m. When walked all paths and stiles were clear and present.
The pub used on this walk is The Bull's Head in Foolow. This is a pleasant village pub offering a good-value menu with wide choice. They offer several hand-pulled beers, including Black Sheep. They do ask for muddy boots to be removed or covered to protect their carpets. Walkers are welcomed as they probably provide the bulk of trade to village pubs. Outside there are several bench tables in front of the pub and one more at the end, by the turn in to the car park area.
