This route on the northern side of the Sierra Grazalema offers some of the best views and greatest walking in the region. Passing between the two 1,000m-plus peaks of Lagarin and Malaver, you are treated to the magnificent scenery of the northern Grazalema area with stunning views down the valley to Zahara de la Sierra, its lake and the pinsapar forest and gorges. As you come out on the col above El Gastor you can see right out over the Olvera Plain to the lone mountain of Zaframagon. The return is equally impressive, as you contour high up on the slopes of Malaver before dropping back down to Montecorto. Never mind the height gain, the views are worth it.

At point 11 the wire gate is now closed. The path used now goes up past the farmhouse and through the wire gate and keeping the wire fence to your right as you go upwards, then a track which takes you through an Equine centre (English owned) then onto the Red Farm Road at Point 13. I have done this walk 3 times in the last 18 months, the last 2 on this route. regards Eric Cookney
