This walk is mostly along tracks and quiet roads. The first section follows the Limestone Way to Flagg, crosses the High Peak Trail near Pomeroy, later crossing the line of the former horsedrawn railway preceding the light railway that became the High Peak Trail leading from the quarry workings of Dowlow.
Approaching Earl Sterndale, the route follows concessionary paths along the top boundary of this quarry. While the views to the right into the quarry may not be too pretty it offers good views over Parkhouse and Chrome Hill, towards Axe Edge beyond Hollinsclough.
The return route re-uses some of the paths and roads, as there are no suitable alternatives without adding considerable distance and much more road-walking.
On this walk the pub used, 'The Quiet Woman' in Earl Sterndale, is currently closed, due to death of landlord. It has perhaps one of the most 'politically incorrect' signs in Derbyshire (the woman in question is headless). Not sure yet if closure permanent. Carrying one's own food might be advisable. There are several benches outside around Green Island in area of pub and church
