Doesn't look much on the map, but this is an excellent short and circular walk through a varied and very rural and interesting landscape of delightful mixed woodland and summer meadows. The heathland and lakes (photo on the right), on the Moore Nature Reserve are particularly interesting and pleasant. This is a waterways walk with two canals but probably no boats. However, if you are lucky, you may see a ship passing through the landscape along the Manchester Ship Canal, but the Runcorn and Latchford Canal became derelict years ago, making a very attractive walk along the old canal bed. The best time to take this walk is in April and May when the long avenues of gorse in the Moore Nature Park will be in bloom. This walk includes instructions for walkers from moored canal boats.
The walk is suitable for children, teenagers, senior citizens and anyone in-between. Excellent for dogs, but hopeless for wheelchairs and buggies. Suitable footwear will be anything stout and flat soled, but boots will be best and there should be no problems for anyone wearing shorts, there are no picnic tables, but several bench seats are scattered around the route.
