Moreton-in-Marsh is a thriving market town in the North Cotswolds, dating back 1,000 years to the Saxon era. The Fosse Way passes through the town and it was used as a coaching station until the mid-19th Century. Its broad High Street is lined with elegant 17th and 18th Century buildings, among them the White Hart Royal, a former manor-house in which King Charles I sheltered during the Civil War.

The walk starts from the town and is mostly flat, passing through several other attractive Cotswold villages along the way, including Aston Magna, Todenham, Great Wolford and Barton-on-the-Heath. If you do the walk on a Tuesday, expect the town to be busy, as the largest open air market in the Cotswolds is held here every Tuesday. Look out for the herd of deer as you pass through a deer farm towards the end of the walk.

(July 2016) An enjoyable walk, although it seemed longer than the 12.2 miles stated. Some of the passages between fields were badly overgrown, but that seems to be a common problem this summer. There was no obvious path through or around the field at waypoint 27. Perhaps I should have trusted the instructions and fought my way along the field edge; but I gave up and walked round via the road and the footpath shown on the map, and rejoined at waypoint 32.
