Here's a delightful short walk possessing a variety of features. The route uses part of the newly designated Mossdale Paths network, crossing open moorland to Mossdale Loch, then via a woodland path and a forest ride, reaches the picturesque Stroan Loch; here there are picnic tables in a splendid setting.

The route continues by passing beneath Stroan Viaduct and following a path beside the Black Water of Dee. The path then diverts through woodland and returns to Stroan Loch along the course of the old railway, this time atop the viaduct.

Return to the start at Mossdale by heading east along the railway trackbed. There are a couple of short cut alternatives to the walk, which may also be lengthened if desired by following the railway west for a while.

What a cracking walk. Tons of photo's to be had. The picnic benches at the loch could have been closer to the water so as to enjoy the view while having our lunch but that is neither here nor there because there is a nice spot to sit on the grass at the waters edge.
