This walk, because of the height reached and the nine-kilometre distance from the nearest phone (no cellphone signal), should be taken seriously, as the weather on the 939-metre summit can be completely different to the car park.
Mount Keen is situated at the western end of Glen Esk in the Angus Hills, is Scotland's most easterly Munro and can be accessed almost all of the way to the summit on a track which is easy to navigate, with few tracks or paths leading away from the main route.
Starting at a car park at the end of the road in Glen Esk, an easy 4.5km walk through Glen Mark leads to the climb which could take the less fit two hours to cover.
