From the car park at Auchlean a 5km walk leads south into the beautiful Glen Feshie. A wide track climbs quite steeply up the side of Coire Chaoil to the Cairngorm Plateau and almost to the summit of Mullach Clach a' Bhlair. This is not so much a summit, more a bump on the western edge of the plateau. An 8km trek northwards across the plateau, again on a good track most of the way, takes you to Carn Ban Mor and on to a very different summit, Sgor Gaoith. Only as you near the summit do you realise that the eastern side has been removed by a glacier, leaving a spectacular drop of 620m to Loch Einich. As you traverse the plateau between the peaks, at one point you are walking directly towards five of the six highest Munros and they seem invitingly close. From Carn Ban Mor a good track leads back down to Glen Feshie, less than 1km from the car park. Above the treeline in Glen Feshie there is little shelter on this route. The plateau sits above 900m and is very exposed, so go well-prepared. It is a great walk on a good day but the weather changes rapidly up there and you may get snow even in summer!
