This is a part of the Clwydian Range where you are unlikely to meet many people, except for the short section on Offa's Dyke National Trail. The terrain is firm tracks apart, from one section which it is difficult to imagine as ever drying out. There are good views from the summit of Moel Arthur and many attractive trees along the opening section in particular and a lot of birdlife, including buzzards and jays.

I completed this very pleasant walk today starting from the Walkers Car Park at WM 9. This put the peak Moel Arthur at the end of the walk. Gradients were modest at all stages except the final descent which was steepish in places. At the beginning of June the potentially muddy section between WM 11 and WM 13 was dry bar a tiny stream between WM 11 and WM 12 along the centre of the byway. At WM 11 the byway is now very clearly marked, but the stile at WM14 is overgrown and not passable - though there is very little additional distance involved in avoiding the field path. The path between WM6 and WM 7 was very indistinct - but as long as you head of the summit of Moel Arthur you will find the gate at WM 7 (which had to be climbed as it was chained shut today!). The views from the top were impressive. Overall another excellent walk Jim.

Michael's suggestion does cut out half of the 1km on the road, although this must be balanced against the risk of leaving your car in a more vulnerable place.

I suggest a better and safer start would be at small layby at 172683 and then walk north for 100m towards Bodfari to waymark 2. Return from waymark 15 to car is only 200m.
