From the heights of Napton Village the walk descends to rural mixed farmland and continues on pleasant bridleways and lanes to ascend the Shuckburgh Hills, with breathtaking views. The beautiful parkland of Shuckburgh Estate, its magnificent trees, pastureland and woods, is home to deer as well as livestock and is a joy to wander through. The descent to the village of Shuckburgh, with wonderful scenes of this green and pleasant land, leads past the picturesque little church, a real gem in the crown. The route follows a lengthy stretch of the Southern Oxford Canal, providing its own touch of charm, delight and interest, until the walker leaves it near Napton Village along a quiet country road, before climbing back to the village, high on a hill.
