Nayland is a beautiful little village on the Suffolk / Essex border in the Stour Valley.

The route starts off in the centre of the village and follows a public footpath past Court Knoll, which is a scheduled ancient monument. Recent archaeological excavations in September 2016 discovered the remains of an ancient chapel on the top of the hill and located a possible medieval hall and other features of interest. All of these features are within a large boundary ditch which may be Iron Age in origin.

The route continues along the river and across open fields back to the village, where it rejoins the river and follows it past a beautiful wildlife pond and the lovely sound of the weir before returning to the village centre.
