This is a pleasant, mainly flat walk from the village of Neasham sitting on the County Durham and North Yorkshire border. The circular route includes a good mix of road-, field-, wood- and lane-walking as it crosses and recrosses the River Tees. This well-signposted walk follows a long section of the Teesdale Way long-distance path.
From Neasham, the walk starts with a short section of road-walking before taking to fields to intersect and pass through Dinsdale Spa Golf Course. After leaving the golf course the route follows a quiet surfaced lane that passes through the small community of Dinsdale Park to intersect the River Tees. A pleasant section follows through Dinsdale Wood as the walk closely follows the river before emerging onto a surfaced lane opposite the old church of St John the Baptist in the village of Low Dinsdale. From here the route crosses the river into the neighbouring county of North Yorkshire. A short section of lane-walking is followed by a long, fairly straight and flattish journey through a series of fields and a wood to arrive at the hamlet of Girsby. The walk then descends steeply to recross the River Tees onto the Sockburn Peninsula to return into County Durham. The last quarter of the walk back to Neasham is along a quiet surfaced lane with almost no traffic.
