Starting from the bus stop in Nerja, it is a short distance to the crossing of the Rio Higueron via a wooden footbridge and then it is a gradual climb up to Frigiliana. Pass by small farms, where it is possible to look down and see work being done in the fields and orchards. Walk behind a plastic greenhouse alongside an acequia (irrigation channel) and pass under the motorway, rejoicing that traffic and walkers are segregated. Views can be had of the Mediterranean behind and the white buildings of Frigiliana ahead to the right. The walk uses tracks and access roads to the farms and villas and for most of the way avoids the main Frigiliana road. Read Tony Allen's super description of the village and its history in walk 5089 and maybe after refreshment in one of the many bars and cafés, explore this fascinating place.

I have just completed this walk in reverse and noted a few details which may help someone doing it this way for the first time.At la Molinetta, turn left through the gap in the buildings then turn right up the sloping track and look for a narrow path up the left hand slope. At number 7, go right with the wall. When looking for the turn at 4 look for the plastic greenhouse over to the right. The track goes to the left of it. After crossing the footbridge towards the end of the walk, if you want to go to the bus stop and the Balcon area, turn left for a short distance, then climb up the steep slope past the old factory.

Tried to do this walk in reverse, starting from Frigiliana and walking down to Nerja as that particular day in February the river was too high to follow the river bed down. We managed fine without any difficulty until we reach La Molinetta but then we got a bit lost and ended up following the main road down instead of sticking to the back roads. This would be a lovely walk to do in reverse (i.e. from Frigiliana to Nerja) if someone who knows the route well would like to list way marks for the navigationally challenged such as ourselves.
