Nettlebed is a small village in the Chiltern Hills. It is on an ancient route through the Chilterns between Henley and Wallingford, which for centuries was part of a trunk route between London and Oxford. Its strategic position led to it having several pubs, inns and coaching inns.
The walk is designed to explore the little lanes, with picturesque houses, and the woods of Nettlebed Common. There are also two or three interesting buildings in the village itself, which we leave till last.
Note that the very last section of this walk, which goes through the grounds of the Joyce Grove Hospice, is currently closed (February 2022) as the property undergoes refurbishment. Return to the start can be made back along the High Street while this is the case.
