This walk takes you along a wooded valley before heading up onto the open high moor. After meeting and traversing part of Dr Blackall's Drive - a track he had made so that his crippled wife could still enjoy trips on the moor - we continue up to Mel Tor (346m) with its spectacular views. Returning along the drive we descend past Aish Tor (283m) and continue to Leigh Tor (180m), before dropping back down into the valley and walking along the bank of the River Dart to the car park.
The walk is steep and stony in parts and on open moor, so good walking-boots are recommended as well as a compass.
As always when walking on the moor, even in summer, an extra layer of clothing and good waterproof coat (or lightweight cagoul in summer) is recommended, as conditions can change very quickly and it can be much colder on the moor than in lower places. Heavy mist can suddenly occur, so a compass and map are recommended.
