The landscape in South Norfolk is fairly flat (read very flat if you are from outside East Anglia) and making sense of the ancient footpaths in our modern world can be something of a challenge. Farmers on the whole reinstate paths and the council play their part in maintaining signage, but this is a working scenario. Paths away from villages may only see single digit numbers of walkers each year, so the temptation on the part of those responsible for upkeep may be to look the other way. Bear this in mind as the field margin dwindles to centimetres or the plank bridge is garnished with moss, but enjoy the frontier feel of some sections.

Looking at the OS map the reader may be forgiven for thinking that the choice of tarmac from Goose Green back towards the start is, to say the least, odd. The reality is that the rights of way shown to proliferate north and south of Heath Road, especially at Goose Green exist only on paper. Where they do have a representation on the ground, they cross working arable fields and are unpleasant, so the quiet lanes are preferable for leisure walking.
