Newlands - Willen Park - Downs Barn - Central Milton Keynes - Campbell Park - Newlands

Although Milton Keynes has never officially been granted city status, it is in all respects (size of population, industrial and commercial importance, area etc) at least as qualified as all those towns which have this status. It is however, unique in a number of respects. As a new town it has been planned and developed (and is still developing at a considerable rate) to minimize contact between motor traffic, pedestrians and cyclists. Most of this route, despite passing densely populated areas, will seem in many respects to be a country walk. The paths throughout however, are firm, level and can be used at all times of year without the need for special footwear or clothing. Some of the views in Campbell Park are little short of spectacular; and yet, if you take the option of visiting Central Milton Keynes (a there-and-back diversion involving surprisingly little extra distance) you cannot fail to be astounded at the variety of urban facilities on offer. As well as an enormous, undercover shopping area, cinemas, theatres, cafes, restaurants, churches, etc., you will even have the option of skiing and snowboarding in the Snowdome. At an earlier point on the walk you will also have the opportunity to visit the Camphill Community, which supports a large number of adults with learning difficulties. As well as a superb restaurant run by members of the community, there is a theatre on the site and home-made bread and other high-quality foodstuffs, mostly produced and / or grown on the site are available for purchase. This walk really has something for almost everyone!

Although the car has been removed there is a newly built parking bay at the start for 15 or so vehicles, but this could fill up quickly at busy times.

7/29/2018 - Dennis Johnson

Easy but pleasant walk. Please note the free car park at the start is now a building site but parking is available at the Splashzone some 5/600 metres back from the start of the walk At point 4 the pathway to the light pyramid from the raised bed box is now open and in fact takes you through an open air circle of 106 granite pillars known as the Milton Keynes Rose
