A beautiful walk over a mixed landscape from the chalk downland of the North Downs to the sandstone of St Martha's Hill, with its beautiful views to the south. Passing through meadow, field and woodland, and passing Chilworth Manor, whose renowned gardens are open occasionally during spring and early summer. The village of Chilworth and the Percy Arms are nearby for those in need of refreshment. (November 2011. The Percy Arms has burnt down. It is expected to reopen in Summer 2012). There is also a cafe at Newlands corner.

Paths are well marked, stiles well kept and no brambles or stinging nettles.

Walked 11.04.2020. This is a stunning walk with much to see. Great directions (we updated these in 2020 so all correct). Lovely variety, alpaca's, vineyards, just so much to see and do! Highly recommended.

Note that on my phone points 2 - 6 were hidden behind the last five points of the walk which, at first, was confusing. Also, at point 8 there is no longer the 30mph sign, so turn right off the road and walk straight downhill on the NDW (waymarked)

The Percy Arms has burnt down unfortunately. I believe it is to reopen in Summer 2012, but anyone intending to stop there for refreshment should check. The only blot on an otherwise highly enjoyable walk.

Good walk of good distance. Incredibly varied terrain and some excellent views. Best enjoyed during warm weather (there are some open sections that go on for miles) or wrap up warm with a hot toddy in the winter. 7/10.

Starting at 11.15, five of us had a lovely amble along this route and reached the Percy Arms pub for a 14.00 lunch: a VERY good carvery and nice atmosphere. That left a 45-minute walk back to the car. Quite a lot of sandy paths; wear suitable shoes. A great walk for a relaxing day.

This was a very rewarding walk. We were lucky enough to have a crisp cold sunny day with not a cloud in the sky. The views thoughout were wonderful.... Highly recommended Regards Marilyn
