This circular walk passes through five separately named woods. Long Bank Plantation, Bushcliff Wood and Kings Wood are old mixed broadleaf woodlands, together with some stands of conifers, which comprise Newmillerdam Country Park. These woods are striking when the leaves are in fall, in bud, when the rhododendrons are in flower and when the bluebells carpet the ground.
Seckar Wood and Patch Wood are predominately silver birch and oak. These woods are renowned for the variety of fungi which can be found on the rotting dead wood. It is within the heart of these woods that the land tops out and the heather-clad sandy moorland provides glorious views across West Yorkshire.
