The walk starts in the centre of Newton St Cyres but it isn't long before it takes you into the country. Just around the corner from the car park is Pump Street, where there is a tiny footbridge over a ford which gives great views up an avenue of thatched cottages depicting a bygone age. Then on up the hill and follow the lane as it twists and turns on and up, passing fields and woods. The views from the top of the hill on a clear day are quite spectacular; you can gaze out over the countryside towards Honiton with the Stockland Hill television mast just in view. Next it's into the open fields and close to the woods; the wildlife is very varied with rabbits and some hares, but also a lot of pheasants and deer. Because of the healthy rabbit population you may see the odd fox.
So put on your boots and get out into the country to see the scenic arena for yourself; it is well worth the time and energy.
