This walk is an ideal introduction for a beginner to countryside walking, before trying some more challenging walks. This walk is virtually flat and very easily accessed from various locations in Northampton.
The full distance of this walk is 11.6km. The walk distance can optionally be reduced to 9km (by omitting 28-34) or to 6km (by starting somewhere in the middle of the walk (see the step by step guide for several alternative start points) and omitting 1-10, 28-34 and 38-42).
The walk includes Storron’s Gravel Pits, 21 hectares of wildlife site managed by the Wildlife Trust; Otters have been recorded here. The walk passes a memorial to Walter Tull, a black footballer who played for Northampton FC in 1911, killed in the First World War. Throughout the walk there are views of the old lift test tower, a dominant landmark of Northampton.
